We want the commitments made by countries within the framework of COP29 to increase even further. Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, stated this at the 5th Sustainable Development Goals Dialogue titled "Future Echoes: Bridging paths for Climate Action and Global Goals," held at ADA University, Azernews reports. Andreeva emphasized that it is crucial to strengthen ambitions and enable action. She recalled that a few weeks ago, countries gathered in New York and adopted the "Pact for the Future," the global digital agreement, and the declaration on future generations. These three agreements will allow the UN to adapt to today’s challenges and enhance its capacity to provide solutions: "However, I reiterate that our main work is based on the UN Charter and the values and principles of international law. Consistency is vital, and strengthening ambitions while enabling action is a key condition." She noted that the event will help determine whether the world is collectively taking the right steps to keep the global average temperature rise below 1.5 degrees. "As Azerbaijan hosts the event, it will present its contributions before COP29. However, we know that claims alone are not enough. We need to expand the implementation process and increase climate finance. It goes without saying that climate finance is the new collective quantitative goal, influencing developing countries. Reduction efforts will become a major topic on the COP29 agenda, including adaptation issues. This is a crucial tool for both adaptation and mitigation, especially for developing countries."
