Russia's top mobile phone operator, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) (MBT.N: Quote, Profile, Research), has acquired a 75 percent stake in Dagtelecom, a GSM-operator in the Caucasus, MTS said in a regulatory document on Monday.
The document provided no more details, but an MTS official said the company would issue a more detailed report on the deal later on Monday, Reuters reports. MTS is currently participating in a tender to buy 90 percent of Armenian operator Armentel from Greece's OTE (OTEr.AT: Quote, Profile, Research) (OTE.N: Quote, Profile, Research). MTS has said it is interested in companies in the parts of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) where it is not represented -- Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
