Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan yesterday welcomed newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator Dafina Gercheva, who submitted a letter by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that officially appoints her in the position of UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia.
Sargsyan highly praised the cooperation between the Armenian government and the various UN agencies operating in Armenia, as well as the programs that have been implemented over the years.
Gercheva, in turn, also expressed her satisfaction with said cooperation, which is evident in the UN development programs to be implemented from 2010–2015 in Armenia.
Noting that the first stage of these programs concluded last year, and the second stage is beginning this year, the UN Resident Coordinator stated that one of the UN’s main goals is to support stable development.
Futher the UNDP’s aims in Armenia include reducing poverty, securing
the availability and accessibility of public services such as education
and healthcare, decentralization and fighting against disasters and
calamities.
