On Suturday a press conference was held on monitoring of national immunization campaign against measles and rubella, which was launched on 27 February in Azerbaijan.

Head pediatrist of republic Nasib Guliyev informed about the immunization campaign, APA informs.

"We have intended to implement such a program for many years. Vaccination again this disease has not been held since 1972. The hearsays about the vaccine and some articles on that in the press are not true."

Executive Director of the Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation William Amoss said the vaccination against the disease is held in the whole Europe. "The vaccine is of high quality. The vaccine, which is used in the national immunization campaign against measles and rubella in Azerbaijan, was produced by India's Serum Institute and given certificate of quality by the World Health Organization (WHO). The hearsays that the vaccine is of bad quality and causes diseases are not true," Mr.Amoss said.

The WHO European region national immunization campaign medical expert Sergey Tishivoy and the coordinator of UNICEF office in Azerbaijan Gillian Vilchok stressed the importance of joining the immunization campaign in Azerbaijan.
