About 55 thousand of people in Azerbaijan are sick with diabetes

Among them 17,000 people are completely insulin-dependent. To date 360 children and 210 teenagers suffer from this disease. In 2005,$11 million have been allocated from the state budget for realization of the state program, envisaging improvement in the level of medical aid rendering to the diabetics, solution of their social problems.

The amount of funds for purchasing of medical equipment, have been grown up this year by 18 times.

Within the framework of the joint project of the International Diabetes Federation, Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijani Diabetes Society and the leading Danish pharmaceutical company "Novo Nordisk", children-diabetics, who under a special registration, have been provided for half-year stores of the most up-to-date insulin medicines and painless syringes for injections, produced by this company.

This project will be preceded also in the second half of the year.
