Schwabe and his hackneyed whining

15 November 2024 [15:40] - TODAY.AZ

The head of the German delegation to PACE, the outspoken Azerbaijan critic Frank Schwabe, is at it again, repeating his tired tirade about the "terrible human rights situation" in Azerbaijan—this time, all in the context of COP29. Not long ago, he made the same accusations word for word, but focused on the claim that Baku should never be reinstated in PACE.

This, despite the fact that Azerbaijan has never shown any real desire to rejoin PACE. One might think that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is calling PACE every week to request re-admission, but of course, that’s far from the case. Schwabe’s statements are simply ill-informed and misleading.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Schwabe has spread such misinformation. He regularly makes false claims about Azerbaijan, often with no basis in reality. At one point, he even called for a boycott of COP29, and more recently, he spread lies about the "imprisonment" of economist Gubad Ibadoglu, who was at home at the time. There are countless examples of Schwabe targeting Azerbaijan with baseless accusations, with the reason behind each attack changing, but the lies remaining the same.

What’s even more surprising is how Schwabe, whose political career in Germany faltered—he once aspired to be chancellor—has sought refuge in European politics. But even there, his “successes” seem limited to lobbying for military interests. This was the case three years ago and remains true today. Schwabe has become so entangled with Armenian interests that he now seems more Armenian than some Armenians themselves. His corrupt Armenian allies are sure to appreciate his efforts and will continue to support his efforts to tarnish Azerbaijan’s image in every possible way.
