The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), taking place in Baku, highlights the significance that the nation places on addressing environmental challenges at a global level, Azernews reports.

This large-scale event is also significant in terms of promoting the ancient and rich historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan.

During this period, attendees can anticipate a variety of cultural festivities and presentations organized by the Azerbaijan Culture Ministry. These initiatives aim to create an enriching atmosphere that melds environmental discourse with cultural appreciation.

As part of the conference proceedings, there will be a display of unique, centuries-old carpets alongside other exquisite weaving artefacts.

Carpet weaving is one of the oldest types of decorative and applied art in Azerbaijan.

The origins of Azerbaijani carpets can be traced back to the Bronze Age.

Known for their high-quality and vibrant colours, they are often characterised by geometric patterns, floral motifs, and symbolic representations. Each region in Azerbaijan has its own distinct style and design, reflecting the cultural diversity of the country.

In 2010, Azerbaijani carpet weaving was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

These exhibits embody the artistry and craftsmanship that have flourished in Azerbaijan for generations.

The venues also showcase an extensive array of fine and decorative arts, national costumes, and various handicrafts that reflect the country's rich artistic heritage.

Particularly fascinating are the handicrafts created by talented representatives of Azerbaijani fine arts.

These beautiful art pieces showcase the country's enchanting landscapes, diverse flora, and vibrant fauna.

Such exhibits are designed to ignite interest and admiration among conference participants, fostering a deeper understanding of Azerbaijan’s cultural richness while addressing the pressing issues of climate change.

COP 29 stands for the 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a landmark international treaty agreed in 1992, and parent treaty to the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan on November 11-22.

The event has gathered world leaders and negotiators from the member states (or Parties) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to further global progress, with business leaders, young people, climate scientists, Indigenous Peoples, and civil society sharing insights and best practices to strengthen global, collective and inclusive climate action.
