Today leaders of Georgian opposition held meetings with James Steinberg, the Deputy Secretary of State, and Phillip Gordon, Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs.

Among opposition members to attend the meeting there were: Nino Burjanadze, the ex-speaker, Democratic Movement-United Georgia leader; David Gamkrelidze, the leader of the New Rights; Georgi Targamadze, chairman of parliamentary fraction of Christian Democrats; and Levan Gachechiladze, the Protect Georgia party leader.

After the negotiations Gachechiladze said to Imedi TV company that "without shift of power in Georgia there will be no regional stability and domestic political peace" and it was what he said to the U.S. guests.

Gamkrelidze, in his turn, explained that the local elections in May can become "the last chance for democracy" for the Georgian government, and there they need U.S. attention.

Soon a meeting with Mikheil Saakashvili, the President of Georgia, will be held, then the guests will head for Munich. A press conference will be held in the airport.
