The Baku mayor's office has allocated sites in the capital city districts for holding mass actions, not only on the open areas but also in definite places and each citizen of Azerbaijan, NGO or a party may use them, said deputy executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan ruling party Siyavush Novruzov, commenting on opposition's plans to hold mass actions in the central parts of the city.
Novruzov noted that the meetings and other mass actions are regulated by the law "On freedom of assembly", while events, connected with elections, by the Electoral Code.
"It is currently unclear on which topic the opposition wants to hold a meeting. If there are general issues, they must act in line with the "Law on Freedom of Assembly", if on elections, they should act in line with the Electoral Code. But as for the places, which we like or dislike, the law does not allow it", said Novruzov.
At the same time, the representative of the ruling party announced that it doe not matter if during the meeting the party will call to boycott elections or to participate in them.
"Even if during the meeting the party calls to boycott elections, this action must be held in line with the Electoral Code. The sites, where meetings can be held, are allocated by the mayor's office and published in the newspaper. Everyone can use one of these places", concluded he.
