US ambassador to Azerbaijan: "Diversification of energy sources is profitable both for supplier countries and for consumer states"

"The main purpose of the visit of deputy US Secretary of State John Negroponte was to communicate the message of President Bush and US Secretary Condolisa Rice about the US serious interest in establishment of stronger relations with Azerbaijan", said US ambasador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse.

She also noted that Azerbaijan plays an important role for the United States as a partner in energy sphere and in security sphere.

The US ambassador noted that any independent state has a right to trade its energy sources in line with its economic course and diversification of energy sources is profitable both for the supplier countries and the consumer states and the world market.

"We have been cooperating on energy projects with Azerbaijan for many years. The BTC pipeline is a main achievement. We are also planning to progress is the other sphere of the Caspian energy development, working at gas supplies to the world market. This has become one of the main goals of Negroponte's visit", said the US diplomat.
