Chairman of CE ministers committee: "We are glad that presidential elections in Azerbaijan were calm and normal"

Day.Az reports with reference to CE Baku office that the statement notes that the report of the mission of international observers, attending the elections, was also taken into account.

"We are glad that presidential elections in Azerbaijan were calm and normal. I am also glad about the progress, noticed during the elections", he said.

At the same time, the chairman of the ministers' committee noted that some shortcomings were also observed. He said Azerbaijani authorities should have ensurede transparent procedure for claims and complaints.

Moreover, Bildt voiced regret about non-participation of a part of opposition in the elections.

The chairman stressed the need to fulfill all commitments, assumed by the country in the Council of Europe, especially in the sphere of press and intensification of efforts for support of civil society development.
