The construction of the Aghdam-Fuzuli highway, which was initiated during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva to the Fuzuli region on October 17, 2021, is progressing rapidly, Azernews reports, citing the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads.

The Agency noted that this road is considered one of the significant projects being implemented in the Garabagh and Eastern Zangezur economic regions, playing a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the liberated districts and villages.

The road, which will be 65.7 km long and 15 meters wide, is being built with four lanes. The width of the road shoulders will be 3.75 meters in each direction, and the width of the median strip will be 4 meters, making the total width of the roadbed 26.5 meters.

In the construction of this first-class technical road, the removal of unsuitable soil, widening of the embankment, construction of a new 26.5-meter-wide embankment, road base, installation of various-sized culverts and water crossings to ensure water drainage, as well as the construction of reserve crossings for underground and communication lines where necessary, have been completed. The lower layer of the asphalt-concrete pavement has been laid.

The construction of four bridges located at the 0.2, 5.6, 12, and 39-kilometer sections of the road, as well as the construction of overpasses at the 63 and 65-kilometer sections, has been completed.

Currently, the construction of reinforced concrete culverts and the installation of reinforced concrete barriers in the median strip are ongoing throughout the project. Overall, 82% of the construction work has been completed.

The construction work is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of the "Construction Norms and Rules." The necessary workforce has been mobilized to complete the construction according to the established schedule.

The Aghdam-Fuzuli highway, which is an extension of the Barda-Aghdam highway, passes through the Aghdam, Aghjabadi, and Fuzuli regions. The construction of the road will ensure comfortable travel from Barda to Aghdam and Fuzuli, as well as in the opposite direction, positively impacting socio-economic development along the route.
