Azerenergy, the State Energy Company of Azerbaijan, pays twofold price for Finnish Wartsila Corporation’s multi-fuelled power plants, MP Jamil Hasanli told a parliament session.

He said the corporation charges Azerbaijan $1 million for 1 MWe multi-fuelled power plant. "Turkey also bought power plants in the same type. But, it paid $500,000 for 1 MWe power plant," he claimed.

Azerenergy Vice-President Marlen Asgarov told APA-Economics that Jamil Hasanli’s accusation is not true. "Azerbaijan bought the power plants at a lower price. But, we also pay for installation of the stations, establishment of the infrastructure and other works. These expenses were not included into the list in Turkey," he replied.

The power plants with a combined output of 450 MWe, all based on multiple Wartsila 34SG gas-engined generating sets, located in Astara, Baku, Khachmaz, Nakhchivan and Sheki, were all commissioned during 2006.

Wartsila Corporation was in December 2006, awarded a contract by Azerenergy to deliver a multi-fuelled generating plant for a 300 MWe power plant to be located at Sangachal, 50 km south of the capital Baku. Installation of the 300MWe power plant will start from May this year, APA-Economics reports.
