An exhibition of the designs drafted for "One Thousand and One Nights" ballet performed for the Moscow audience a couple of years ago was timed to the 83rd anniversary of our compatriot, the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR, Azerbaijan and Russia, the winner of the State Award of the USSR, Tahir Salahov. His daughter Aydan Salahova was the organizer of the event.
The opening ceremony took place in the best traditions of the Moscow beau monde. The artists' friends, relatives and colleagues, as well as high-ranking officials attended the event. All guests came to congratulate the artist with his birthday. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moscow Polad Bulbuluoglu opened the official part of the exhibition. He spoke about the art of Tahir Salahov noting that the verbal symbols are not enough for this.
"On the one hand it is very easy to talk about him as 'a person of world renown'. On the other hand - it is very difficult. Because it's always necessary to look for new words to describe all that his works combine. A lot was said and written about him and still it is not enough as Tahir Salahov embodies the wisdom of the Azerbaijani people and diversity of the Azerbaijan culture," Bulbuloglu said.
Then, the guests spoke about Salahov's works and personality. Speaking at the event Salahov said he had exhibitions in major cities around the world. "However, there was organized a magnificent exhibition for me at the Heydar Aliyev Palace in Nakhchivan two weeks ago and I can surely say that any artist in the world would have been proud of such event! I want to say that I have organized the Union of Artists of Nakhchivan at the time. I created a branch of the Union of Soviet artists in the Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic and I am glad that my works exhibited in the same building together with the works of the Nakhchivan artists. Once again, I already decided that we must often travel to the regions."
"If we want to do our best for our country, we should unite no matter what. This is a big responsibility. For me, the very geography plays no role. Azerbaijan has always been in my heart, it is in my genes. Wherever I am, I am still an Azerbaijani. I take all the good in every nation and country - if it helps me in life. But all know me as Azerbaijani and I will remain Azerbaijani ..."
