At least four people were killed and 15 others sustained serious burn injuries in an explosion at a chemical reactor of a leading pharmaceutical company`s plant in the northern Indian city of Chandigarh on Monday, a senior police official said."The explosion happened in the chemical reactor when 31 workers were at the plant. While four died on the spot, all the injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital where the condition of them is said to be serious," the official said on condition of anonymity.
Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames that engulfed the plant following the blast, he added. A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said.
