The German government set up a hotline Monday aimed at helping Muslims who feel pressured into espousing extremist ideas, the federal constitutional protection office said, DPA reported.

The hotline service has been dubbed "HATIF," after the Arabic word for telephone, and in German stands for Out of Terrorism and Islamic Fanaticism.

"The primary goal of HATIF is to prevent violence in the name of Islam," a statement from the office said.

People calling the confidential hotline can be provided with advice and help with changing locations and gaining qualifications, as well as taking "appropriate measures" if the individual has been threatened.

Hotline staff will be able to communicate in German, Arabic or Turkish.

In June, Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere presented the annual constitutional protection report, which said there were 29 Islamist organizations in the country, with some 36,000 active members.
