Co-rapporteurs of Monitoring Group of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe on Azerbaijan Andreas Gross and Andres Herkel have held meeting with the delegation of our country to that organization yesterday.
A.Gross made speech in the meeting stating that the objective of his visit is to familiarize himself with the real condition concerning the upcoming parliamentary elections. He said that, it needs to make changes to the Election Code and forming the composition of the Election Commissions till the election.
National deputy Ali Huseynov said that there is no need to form the composition of Election Commissions again. According to the deputy, the law violations during the election processes are due to the members of Election Commissions being unaware of the laws. As concerns making changes to the Election Code, A.Hassanov stated that they are ready to make these amendments. A.Herkel noted that, the amendments to the Election Code should be made 6 months before the election.
Expressing his dissatisfaction of the process of forming Public Television, A.Herkel said of these processes to be carried out sluggishly: "The citizens' right of getting together freely should be ensured. All the NGOs in the country should be ensured to observe the election process in the country freely."
Head of the delegation Samed Seyidov stated that changes will be made to the Election Code. According to him the citizens' right of assembling freely will be ensured.
The member of delegation Gulamhuseyn Alibayli said of the Election Commissions to be under the control of authority and that the elections in the country are falsified massively. Considering it important to form the composition of the elections again, G.Alibayli said that no improvement was in the direction of changing the Election Code so far. According to him, though a group of representatives from the opposition parties prepared their proposals on changes to the Code and presented to the Parliament, it has not been discussed so far.
G.Alibayli also said of the political prisoner problem in the country not to have been solved completely. The meeting was continued without the participation of the journalists. /APA/
