“The status of Nagorno Karabakh is not discussed in the current stage of Azerbaijan-Armenia talks on the regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.”
Tahir Taghizadeh, head of Press and Information Policy Office of Foreign Ministry told APA while expressing opinion on the information of British “Jane’s Information Group” company that Azerbaijan fully supports the idea of conducting a referendum in Nagorno Karabakh. According to Tahir Taghizadeh, the issue of the status will be discussed in the second round of the negotiations: “The discussions focus on the liberation of the territories, withdrawal of troops, de-mining of the territories, providing the people’s returning to their native homes, restoration of communications and etc. The status of Nagorno Karabakh might be reviewed after the restoration of ethnic composition of this region- ensuring the situation before the conflict. No talks are held on referendum at present. The Constitution of Azerbaijan envisages holding a referendum and this referendum should be nationwide and cover all parts of the Republic”.
