"The international community supports efforts applied for achieving peace in Nagorno Karabakh and development of agreement between the sides," the French president Jacques Chirac said in a statement today, the Elysee Palace official spokesman reported.

According to Trend, he has held meetings with the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Armenian president Robert Kocharyan.

"There exist real chances to lay foundations for the Nagorno Karabakh problem settlement," the French president noted. He underlined, he receives leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia "in the hope that the forthcoming negotiations will open the way for the new peace prospects", the Elysee Palace spokesman said.

Jacques Chirac noted especially "the importance of the peace achievement not only for Armenia and Azerbaijan but for the entire region and the world stability", the Elysee Palace spokesman said. The head of France wished "success in the upcoming talks" to the both presidents.

After the talks with the president of France at the Elysee Palace leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia will meet today in the evening at the Ramboier castle south of Paris. As the Elysee Palace spokesman said, the talks will be held tete-a-tete behind closed doors.
