President of Azerbaijan on 26 April at the U.S. Congress building met with Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Welcoming the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Hastert said he is deeply impressed with the current visit of Aliyev. The visit will promote also in development of links in field of legislation, he stressed. According to AzerTAg, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized importance of his visit to the United States, expressing confidence that from the standpoint of bilateral relations, the visit will be a new phase in developing significant deeds. In the meeting, focused were issues of bilateral cooperation in various fields, exchanged views on global energy projects, regional security and other questions. The same day, President Aliyev had a series of meetings at the Congress. He met with members of working group on Azerbaijan Congressman Curt Weldon and Solomon Ortiz, a group of members of the energy and external relations committee of the House of Representatives, Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Foreign Operations Appropriations and chairman of the external relations committee Richard Lugar. Speaking of the US-Azerbaijan relations, the Congressman and Senators noted importance of the further expansion of strategic partnership between two countries and cover new fields. President Ilham Aliyev said he attaches great importance to his visit to Washington, stressing that the meetings and negotiations would give new impetus to development of cooperation ties. In the meeting, discussed were numerous fields of bilateral relations, the ongoing processes in Republic, the leading role of country in region, its participation in international questions, in anti-terror coalition and other issues of mutual interest.
