Armed Forces peacekeeping party started trainings related to deploying peacekeepers to Lebanon.

Deploying of Azerbaijani peacekeepers is being discussed in high circles now. It is also reported that the personnel to be deployed to Lebanon is being selected, APA reports.

The Defense Ministry press service did not inform about the preparations in the peacekeeping party. The Ministry said the decision on deploying troops abroad is made by the parliament on the government offer.

As Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) is on leave now, according to the procedure, parliament's special session should be convened to discuss deploying peacekeepers abroad.

Parliament’s standing commission for defense and security affairs deputy chief Aydin Mirzazadeh told that parliament has not received any appeal regarding this.

"We have not received in this connection. If it is done, parliament will convene a special session to make a final decision. The number of peacekeepers, the region where they will be deployed, their appointment and supply should be decided first of all," he said.

Last week, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that the issues on deploying Azerbaijani peacekeeping forces to Lebanon are discussed. Azerbaijan has 213 peacekkeprs serving in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
