A group of religious figures and theological students of Tabriz staged a protest demonstration against desecration of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by Baku-based newspaper on Monday.

Biweekly magazine, Sana'at Gazeti (art and cultural newsletter) printed an article blaspheming Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in its last issue.

Religious figures of Tabriz held a sit-in protest in front of residence of the Supreme Leader's representative and Friday prayers leader of Tabriz Ayatollah Mohsen Mojtahed Shabestari demanding punishment for those who committed such a heinous crime.

The protesters condemned the ugly action of the magazine and expressed revulsion of those involved in publishing the blasphemy.

Ayatollah Shabestari also joined the protesters condemning the Baku-based magazine's unethical practice.

He said that the blasphemy is a reaction of the enemies of the Muslims worldwide to the success they have made in the international community.

Shabestari said that the enemies of Islam worldwide are dissatisfied with achievements of Muslims and they are trying to stop the progress of Muslims.

Because of the ugly action, all classes of Tabriz theological school were shut down on Monday.

Yesterday, businessmen of Tabriz shut down the market (Bazaar) and held demonstrations against the Gazeti. IRNA
