Azerbaijani human rights defenders left for Strasbourg in the framework of the spring session of Parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe met with secretary of Venice Commission Giovanni Buquicchio.

They exchanged views on the amendments to the Electoral Code and law on freedom of assembly. Giovanni Buquicchio agreed on changing the composition of election commissions by presidential elections.

Rights defender Arzu Abdullayeva told the APA correspondent that Giovanni Buquicchio considered it expedient the prospect of amending Azerbaijan’s constitution.

"He thinks that these amendments will help balance different branches of the government. Giovanni Buquicchio also said the Venice commission intends to cooperate with Coordination Council 'For Free and Just Elections' where 53 NGOs are represented," she said.
