Turkish Constitutional Court passed a decision on suspension of the presidential elections.

After four-hour discussions, assistant chairman of the Constitutional Court Hashim Kilic said the claim by the Republican People's Party (CHP) for annulment of the election results was satisfied, APA reports.

According to the decision, snap general election is to be called, and a new parliament is to elect the president in Turkey.

361 parliamentarians participated in the first round of presidential elections in Turkey on 27 April, 2007. 357 MPs voted for the only candidate Abdullah Gul.

Opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) applied to the Constitutional Court for annulling the vote grounding that there was not the required two-thirds majority (367 votes).
