Azerbaijan forwarded Russia the first echelon of arms, equipment and other property loaded in Batumi, Georgia at Yalama station at 10.00. 53 military equipment and 700 tonnes of other property were loaded in 35 trains.
The echelon entered Azerbaijan territory in the second half of day yesterday. Russian servicemen and "Shahin" Special Forces of Interior Ministry carried out security measures during the transportation of military equipment. Azerbaijan will convey 10 echelons from Batumi to Russia this year. Four more echelons are expected to be forwarded to the 12th military unit in Gumru, APA reports. Under the agreement between Russia and Georgia, the 62nd base in Akhalkalaki and 12th base in Batumi will be liquidated correspondingly by the end of 2007 and in 2008. 25 echelons were conveyed from military bases in Georgia through Azerbaijan in December and May-July of 2006.
