The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan is interested in holding an exit poll in the forthcoming presidential elections.

According to CEC secretary Natig Mammadov, the main aim in holding exit poll is to check the correspondence of results announced by the Central Election Commission to the opinion of voters.

Natig Mammadov said the exit poll held during the latest parliamentary elections and the results announced by the Central Election Commission coincided and therefore they will try to apply this system again.

As for the changes in the rules of the exit poll Natig Mammadov said:

“We can not say exactly that there will not be changes, but we should think over the essence of an exit poll and define who will organize it, who will appeal for the details,” he said.

Mr. Mammadov said that specialized groups are better to hold exit polls in this field.

“On the other hand, those bodies must be influential and the sides must accept judgments given by them. There are many famous bodies in the world which can do it. Exit polls would better be held by such organizations,” he said.

Mammadov noted that holding exit polls has no connection with the CEC and therefore there will not be appeal to CEC. If local organizations apply it, there is no need to appeal to any body, except for relevant state bodies.

The CEC secretary said that there is no need to express opinion on exit poll to be held by any organization beforehand, as much time is left until presidential elections. Mammadov stressed that there was no appeal to CEC on the issue by now.
