On February 22 World Azerbaijanis Congress and the Civil Solidarity Party of Azerbaijan held a protest action in front of Iran's embassy in Azerbaijan.
About 50 members were picketing with slogans calling for the Iranian side to end the relationship with separatist Armenia, as well as respect the rights of Azerbaijanis living in Iran.
The slogans of the speakers read: "Shame to the country, opening the arms to murderers", "The fraternity with aggressive Armenia contradicts Islamic values", "The true face of Muslim fan", "No Persian chauvinism".
The demonstrators led by World Azerbaijanis Congress Permanent Council chairman Taghizadeh Ajdar addressed with statement in front of the embassy. This statement reflects the atrocities of Armenians against Azerbaijanis, but also called on Iran's people to protest Tehran's cooperation with Yerevan.
The action, lasted about 20 minutes, was stopped by police.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.
The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
