Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Friday criticized the media's reports about Thursday's meeting between himself, President Abdullah Gül and Chief of General Staff Gen. İlker Başbuğ.
"I am appealing to the media bosses! Columnists cannot write and comment as they please," Erdoğan said in a speech delivered to the provincial party chairmen in Ankara on Friday.
He said the press' commentary about the meeting had been suspicious and ugly.
He warned columnists: "If the markets crash I know who is to blame. Everybody should know the red line."
Everybody is free to express their opinion, Erdoğan said, but those who give pens to these people have to be told that there is no room for them here.
In his speech, he also said there was no clash between the country's institutions and the rule of law was respected and courts should be allowed to perform their duties.
"No one should be afraid of democracy at work," he said.
He also ruled out early elections at the opposition's whim.
