The Transportation Rights Campaign Group will host a rally in Ankara on Saturday to protest the fact that Ankara’s public transportation is the most expensive in Turkey, chairman of the Federation of Consumers’ Associations Ali Çetin announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

Cetin highlighted that Ankara has been in utter chaos after key transport routes stopped running in reaction to a verdict of two court hearings, which resulted in a roll back to 2003 public transport price levels.

“The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality could have put together a reasonable tariff for different public transportation in the city, but instead they rack up the prices and cause complete chaos and violence,” Çetin said.

According to Çetin, these decisions are not democratic. He called upon nongovernmental organizations and members of the pubic to gather at 2 p.m. on Saturday to speak out for reasonable transport tariffs.
