Georgian Vice Prime Minister, State Minister on Integration into
European and Euro-Atlantic Structures Giorgi Baramidze met with
European Parliamentary Social-Deputy Chairman Democrats Hannes Swoboda
and European Democracy and Solidarity Forum Deputy Chairman Jan Marinus
Viers.
Baramidze briefed guests on the situation in Georgia, South Ossetia and
Abkhazia, and stressed the importance of accessing international
observers to these areas and expanding the observation mission.
The state minister also spoke about democratic reforms in Georgia, and
measures to promote business and attract foreign investment. He paid
special attention to local elections and emphasized the importance of
monitoring by international observers during the pre-election period
and elections.
The sides also discussed Georgia's integration into European
structures. Baramidze underscored the importance of the Eastern
Partnership Project, the simplification of the EU visa regime with
Georgia and a free trade and association agreement with the EU.
