Azerbaijani carpets are known throughout the world. Necessary arrangements are held to perpetuate it as a cultural heritage, chairman of industrial-technical council of the Iranian province of Eastern Azerbaijan Mohammed Turab said, according to FARS news agency.

He said that the work on collecting necessary documents to include Azerbaijani carpet into a list of UNESCO cultural heritage has been launched. During the reign of Hulagu Khan, Tabriz was one of the centers manufacturing and selling carpets. Patterns of Ardebil group, such as the image of Shah Abbas and Sheikh Safi, fish, trees, pots, petals and others were woven at the carpets in Tabriz.
