The Ukrainian ship Gregory Petrovsky sank during a strong storm in the port of Poti (Georgia), the border police told Trend.

All 11 crew members, including a woman, were rescued. Seven Ukrainian citizens, three Azerbaijani citizens and one Russian citizen were among crew members, the port told Trend.

The vessel was holed in the tank. At present, roughly 35 tons of fuel are flowing to the sea. The situation is complicated by the fact that it is still windy in the port area. It hampers the work on liquidating the accident.

According to the information, employees of the coast guard and inspection service of the port were involved in the rescue operation.

The dry cargo was empty. During the storm, it lost control and ran into a pier. The vessel cracked in two parts. The crew of the cargo ship was notified in advance of the impending danger, but it responded too late, the border police said.

The investigation is underway.
