Ten more life-term prisoners joined the hunger strike in Gobustan jail of Azerbaijan, which started on April 16 ith demand of commuting the punishment.
Elman Osmanov, lawyer for some of the hunger-striking prisoners told the APA that former Police Special Assignment Group (OPON) members Sefa Poladov and Arif Kazimov are also among the protesters. Lawyer Osmanov refuted the reports about six prisoners' stopping the hunger strike and said that after 10 prisoners joined the hunger strike the number of protesters reached 43. The protesters in Gobustan jail told the APA that 39 prisoners are going on hunger strike now. Chief of Gobustan jail Alizade Huseynov told the APA that six more prisoners started hunger strike. "26 prisoners joined the hunger strike at first, six of them stopped the protest action later. Six more prisoners started hunger strike again yesterday. 26 prisoners are on hunger strike at present. They are under doctor's control," he said. The lifers demand commuting their punishment to 15-year imprisonment.
