Azerbaijan’s song, Day After Day by Elnur Huseynov & Samir Javadzade in the country’s first appearance in the Eurovision Song Contest, picked up 132 points from the 43 countries taking part in this year’s contest in Belgrade.
The Land of Fire’s Day After Day, a dramatic act featuring an Angel and a Devil, held the 8th place in the 53rd contest won by Russian pop singer Dima Bilan, with the ballad "Believe" giving him a comfortable win over rivals from Ukraine and Greece.
His song "Believe" is a ballad written by US producer Jim Beanz with help from super-producer and rapper Timbaland, also from the United States.
Russia received the maximum 12 points from former Soviet states Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia, as well as Israel (272).
Azerbaijan picked up the top 12 points from Turkey and Hungary, as well as 10 points from Russia, Ukraine and Czech Republic.
21 of 43 participant countries voted for Azerbaijan like Macedonia (8 points), Moldova (8), Belgium (7 points), Lithunaia (7 points), Poland (7 points), Georgia (7 points), Andorra (7 points), Latvia (4 points), Israel (3 points), Greece (3 points), Bulgaria (3 points), Romania (2 points), the Netherlands (2 points), Germany (1 point) and Slovenia (1 point).
Ukraine finished second with the song Shady Lady (230 points), while Greece were third (218 points) and Armenia fourth. Norway - the highest placed country in Western Europe - came fifth, followed by host nation Serbia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Israel and Bosnia and Herzegovina for completing the top ten.
Azerbaijan gave 12 points to Turkey, 10 to Ukraine, 8 to Russia, 7 to Israel, 6 to Greece, 5 to Norway, 4 to Georgia, 3 to Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2 to Serbia and 1 to Albania.
The final included 25 countries and 18 others who were knocked out at semi-final stage participated in the voting.
