President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Olympic Village in Beijing.

The President was welcomed here by mayor of the Olympic Village Chen Zhili who familiarized him with the site.

Afterwards, the President, accompanied by Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov and the Azeri team`s chef de mission Ilham Madatov, viewed the apartments of the Azeri Olympians.

President Aliyev had a conversation with the athletes during which he wished them every success.

"We have a good tradition – in our first Olympic games we won one medal, in the second three medals, and then in the third we gained five medals..." he said.

"However, it is becoming very difficult to win medals as each country wants its team to achieve good results".

"Your successes will be a stimulus for the younger generation. Much can be said ... but you know what to do, and remember that the people of Azerbaijan are watching and supporting you, and awaiting your victories", President Aliyev said.

Afterwards, the President had his photo taken together with the Olympians.

The Head of State then viewed the Olympic Village`s canteen where he chatted with Rimas Kurtinaitis, former Lithuanian basketball player who coached Azerbaijan`s national team for four years.
