The Court of Grave Crimes held a court hearing on the case of former member of the national team of Azerbaijan for boxing Vuqar Alekperov.
The boxer faces charges of blackmail.
Day.Az reports that the court is presided by judge Alovsat Abbasov.
During the hearing the state prosecutor read the indictment. In his testimonies Alekperov said he is not guilty of anything and he did not admit his guilt. Alekperov renounced the testimonies, given during the investigation.
He said he had known founder of Insaatci-E company Kanan Quliyev since November of 2007.
"Quliyev was to pay $32,500 for Lexus, $10,000 for Audio. I did not apply any force against him and there was no incident between us", said Alekperov.
He noted that he just demanded from Quliyev to pay the debt, while the latter filed a claim against him.
"During my arrest Quliyev was not near me", said the boxer.
In line with the case materials, on May 16 of 2008 Vuqar Alekperov used force against founder of Insaatci-E Kanan Quliyev, took his Toyota as a pledge and demanded to give him $10,000 in Patamdar settlement.
Officials of the head office for combat with organized crime of the Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry detained Alekperov at the moment when Quliyev was handing him $10,000. The car was returned to the victim. The sportsman is charged under article 182.3.2 (blackmail) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
