The government of Azerbaijan has prepared a strategy of prevention of the destruction of the ozone layer to be a basis for different measures in this direction, says the statement of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, released due to the international day of ozone layer protection, marked on September 16.
The statement says that despite financial problems of the transitive period, Azerbaijan is taking an active part in the events of the world community to prevent production of ozone-destroying substances and their emission into the atmosphere.
The Ministry of Ecology voiced Azerbaijan's support to the efforts of the world community for protection of the ozone layer and its fulfillment of all duties, taken in the framework of international conventions.
It should be noted that the law on ratification of the Vienna convention (1985), Montreal protocol (1987), London (1990), Copenhagen (1992) and Montreal (1997) amendments has been adopted in Azerbaijan.
After ratification Azerbaijan rejected the use of ozone-destroying substances at the Chinar refrigerators plant and Sumgayit compressor plant under support of the UN program of development and environment.
It should be noted that in 1994 the UN assembly declared September 16 as the International day of protection of the ozone layer. The day was declared in memory of signing the Montreal protocol on substances, destroying the ozone layer.
