Nazim Alekberov, head of the penitentiary service, met with Rasuli, chief of department for work with Iranians, residing abroad under the Foreign Ministry of Iran, reports Day.Az with reference to AzerTac.

The meeting, held by Rasuli's request, discussed exchange of prisoners between the two countries.

Nazim Alekberov noted that the cooperation between the Justice Ministries of both countries is expanding and under the contract signed between our countries on exchange of prisoners regular work is held.

At the same time, the fact that officials of the Iranian embassy in our country are attentive to Iranian citizens, held in prison in Azerbaijan, was assessed as a fact  worthy of attention. It was noted that the issue of releasing 20 more Iranian citizens to their country to serve the rest of the term there is currently being considered.

Positively assessing the cooperation in the said sphere, Rasuli touched upon a number of aspects regarding exchange of prisoners and stressed the need for the further improvement of this work.

Then the parties held exchange of views.

The meeting was attended by Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Nasir Hamedi Zare, representatives of the Foreign Ministry of the country and department of control over the judicial bodies, responsible officials of the department of international cooperation under Azerbaijan's Justice Ministry and penitentiary service.
