At our school we try to break the negative stereotype of Caucasians, residing in Russia, said Aida Guliyeva, director of secondary school No 157 with ethnocultural Azerbaijani component, speaking of the activity of the school, she leads.

According to her, the full name of  school is secondary school No 157 with ethnocultural Azerbaijani component, said Aida. The school was founded in 1997. A school with ethnocultural component differs from other schools because along with a general scientific program it teaches culture, traditions, language, history of people of any country, in this case Azerbaijan.  If ordinary schools have only 18-24 hours for additional ethnocultural bloc, the ethnocultural schools have 180 hours.

Moreover, she said the school has a cultural center, which also promotes study of culture and traditions of Azerbaijan. Not only the pupils of our school but also from other schools throughout Moscow study there.

"We are closely cooperating with H.Aliyev's foundation, his affiliate in Moscow and All-Russian Azerbaijanis Congress. In the framework of the program "Multinational Moscow" they sent students from different high schools, where Azerbaijanis study, and we help them arrange exhibitions, scenes, national dances and so on

By the way, we want to name our school after prominent compatriot Kerim Kerimov. We have already made this proposal to the Moscow government and submitted due documents. On November 14 we organized a good party for pupils on the occasion of the 91st birthday of our prominent compatriot. It was attended by Kerimov's daughter and cosmonauts", said Guliyeva.

She said they want to break a stereotype of Caucasians, residing in Russia, according to which Russian residents consider people, coming from the Caucasus to be low educated.

"There are different educational programs, including "Multinational Moscow", "Dialogue is a way to understanding" and so on and we take part in almost all of them and gain success. It is already the second year that we are taking the first place in such a large program as "Moscow on the way to the world culture", which involves not only 2,000 Moscow schools, but also all regions of Russia. This is a good indicator".

According to her, in October they were successfully taking part in a prestigious contest "We know Russia" among the CIS states.

"I would like to note that unlike other ordinary Russian schools, we were an ethnocultural school. The thing is that considering our last year experience, we supposed that the contest will be held only among ethnocultural schools and therefore, presented only Azerbaijani pupils for partucipation. And we took the second place! The jurors were astonished. The gap between the first and the second places was insignificant. Thus our pupils can worthily participate in any contest", said she.

According to Guliyeva, this year they had 46 graduates, of them only 8 failed in entrance exams.

"This occurred not due to the bad preparation, but by subjective reasons. Some of them faced problems in getting Azerbaijani passport, some did not want to study for fee and they were others who did not want to go to study in the regions".

Guliyeva noted that most of her graduates continue studying excellently and in this connection she receives letters of gratitude from different prestigious high schools.
