Azerbaijan's Education Minister Misir Mardanov notes that the year of 2008 was successful in the development of the local education system".
"Success was reached on all stages of education but despite this there are still definite unsettled problems", he told reporters Saturday.
Among the main achievements of 2008 the Minister listed construction of schools, repair and restoration works, equipment of schools and introduction of national curriculum in primary school.
The Minister also added that funds, allocated for education from the state budget have been raised five times. Investment spendings were also raised.
"All works held for development of the local education system, are conducted in the framework of 14 state programs, confirmed by the President of the country", noted he.
Speaking about the plans for this year, Mardanov noted that serious attention in 2009 will be paid to higher education development.
"All stages of higher education will develop by scientifically substantiated problems", said he.
