27 January 2009 [18:32] - Today.Az
Professor Ahmed Omid Yezdani, chairman of the Azerbaijan-Germany academic society in Berlin, has sent an appeal to US President Barack Obama, reports the World Azerbaijanis Congress.

The statement voices request for the US President to pay attention to the issue of South Azerbaijanis in Iran.

"Azerbaijani Turks, residing in their historical lands in Iran, are subjected to pressure by the Persian chauvinist regime. There is not a single school in their native language, where over 25 mln Azerbaijanis could educate. Many Azerbaijanis, fighting for the right to study in their native language, are held in Iranian jails", says the letter.

It is noted that the mullocratic regime of Iran violates the right of our compatriots and voices request for the US president to take control over the struggle of Azerbaijani Turks for the freedom of language and culture.
