In the near future Azerbaijan will approve the State program on development of space industry and the creation of space communication systems, said Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, Novosti-Azerbaijan reports with reference to ANS TV channel.

|The draft state program for the launch of artificial satellite telecommunications and the creation of the space industry has been prepared and submitted to the Government, some preparatory works in connection with its approval are currently underway.

If the program is approved in time, the first artificial telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan will be launched in 2011 and the second in 2012", said the minister.

According to him, the International Telecommunication UnionĀ  has allocated two positions for local and one position for international use to Azerbaijan at a geostationary orbit. But this takes time, so the artificial communication satellites will be used mainly at the positions, leased from other States for 20-22 years.

In this direction the negotiations are mainly conducted from Malaysia and Turkey, whose vacant positions on the orbit are envisioned for use.

At the same time, Azerbaijan has begun work on specific business projects for the introduction of modern navigation systems. As part of this work it is envisioned to use the positive aspects of American, Russian and European navigation systems. Simultaneously, there is a plan to apply the capacities of the transport intellectual regulation system.

The most common navigation system is the US GPS system that is considered to be a clear and beneficial from an economic point of view. In addition, in Azerbaijan also holds discussions on the establishment of the regional center of space navigation systems.
