Kazakh frontier guards detained 15 poachers from Azerbaijan with sturgeon of over a ton on the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan Today reported.

“Bordering boats that were on duty detained two commercial transport ships with fifteen citizens from Azerbaijan who were engaged in illegal fishing of sturgeon on the Caspian Sea in the territorial waters of Kazakhstan.”

The report states that a ton of sturgeon fish species, 680 kilograms of sprats and 9 kilometers kalad (prohibited gear) were found on the board of the ships.

Both vessels were accompanied to the river port city of Atyrau. Legal proceedings have been launched.
