A poster featuring Barack Obama in "whiteface", complete with the Joker's sickly red smile and black eyes, is popping up all over LA.
The Joker poster says "Socialism" on the bottom of it, obviously more propaganda trying to convince Americans that Barack Obama is out to ruin our country and control our lives with a socialist agenda.
Obama is perhaps more famous for his oft-spoofed 'HOPE' poster, a poster that itself has been the subject of some controversy. The poster quickly became an iconic pop culture phenomenon. Because the image of Obama was copied from a photo shot by an Associated Press photographer, Shepard Fairey, the artist behind the poster, came under scrutiny when the Associated Press tried to claim that it deserved to be compensated for the use of its image. Fairey has alleged that the use of the photograph is protected by the fair use doctrine.
The Joker Socialism poster is offensive on so many different levels, beyond the tired allegation that Barack Obama has a socialist agenda. First of all, if a white person portrayed in black face is considered offensive, then shouldn't it be offensive to some people to see a black man with his face painted white? On top of that, the poster has copied that of 'The Dark Knight', something that those associated with the film will probably not be too happy about.
But, worst of all, the poster is using the death of Heath Ledger to grab the attention of those who see it. Since 'The Dark Knight' was Heath Ledger's final full film performance, he will forever be tied to the Joker character. To take this character that he has been celebrated for that many see as representing the end of his life and to use it to try and insult another human being is just disgusting, Associated Content reported.
