The regulations of Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO)
was changed due to the amendments and additions made to the law on
Freedom of Religion.
The changes to regulations were adopted in the 12th meeting of the CMO in Baku on Aug.12.
On July 21, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on amendments and additions to the Law on Freedom of Religion.
Under the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers is tasked to submit to
the President proposals on adjusting the existing legislation to the
decree on amendments and additions to the Law on Freedom of Religion.
According to the decree, the Caucasus Muslims Office will appoint
the religious leaders, including the leaders of prayer places upon the consent of relevant executive authorities. Events related
to the Islamic religion can only be conducted under the guidance of
the Azerbaijani citizens who received religious education in the
country.
