The UN has provided $115 million in food assistance to Azerbaijan over 15 years, head of the UN World Food Program representative office Fuad Huseynov said at a meting with a Azerbaijani children from families of internally displaced persons.

“At the first stage, the assistance covered about 500,000 Azerbaijani citizens and later, when the assistance program was joined other international organizations, it covered less people,” Huseynov said.

Meeting with children from families displaced by the Karabakh conflict took place in the UN Azerbaijan office on Wednesday in connection with International Youth Day marked on August 12.

In turn, head of Public Information Department of the UN office Envar Selimovic said he hopes these children will soon be able to return to their land and make a successful career.

“We welcome the progress on negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. UN supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and hopes for an early solution to the conflict,” he said.
