Five Azerbaijani crew member on board of Turkey-flagged ship detained on Indian coast will return home in two or three days, political attaché of Azerbaijani embassy in India Habib Mammadov said.

He said the situation becomes worse in the ship, so Azerbaijanis decided to return home without getting their salaries and passports.

“We contact the ship every day. As the situation becomes worse in the ship, the Azerbaijanis decided to return. The embassy is preparing necessary documents. As soon as the process is over, the Azerbaijanis will be sent home at the cost of the embassy. The documents will be prepared within two or three days,” he said.

Mammadov said the sailors decided to return to Azerbaijan as food supply has exhausted.

“Besides, payment of salaries and return of passports is a long process. One of them was diagnosed with light form of malaria. Doctor prescribed medicines and allowed him to fly on plane,” he said.

The ship owned by Turkish ECE A Tanker Group has been detained in India. There are 10 Turkish citizens, 1 Georgian and 5 Azerbaijanis on board.
