“Delegation led by the Aviation Administration of Israel visited Baku to meet with the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) President Jahangir Asgarov," the Israeli embassy said.

“The talks were held in a positive atmosphere. At the end of talks the sides reached a consensus,” the embassy said.

“The outcome of the meeting opened possibility for further development of air links between the two countries; for AZAL to continue flights  and for the Israeli company Arkia to start Baku - Tel-Aviv flights,” the embassy said.

“Israel Airlines Arkia will get permission to operate flights to  the Heydar Aliyev airport and at the same time AZAL will operate weekly flights to Israel,” the embassy said.

In July Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Administration of Israel Avi Ben-Hur considered security measures adopted by Azerbaijan inadequate. However, Baku rejected demands to allow Arkia flights to be accompanied by armed Israeli guards.

As a result, the Israeli airline company was unable to begin flights to Azerbaijan as planned earlier. In turn, Ben-Hur, decided that, under the principle of parity, Azerbaijan Airlines will not be able to continue flights to Tel Aviv.
