Turkey plans to launch its first observation satellite next year. The satellite which is called Rasat with high resolution optical imaging system and new modules developed by Turkish engineers, will be the first earth observation satellite manufactured in Turkey.

Images to be received from Rasat are expected to be used for such purposes as mapping, disaster monitoring as well as urban planning.The satellite will be launched from an airlift base in Russia.

In late of August a deal on rendering assistance for the launch of the Turkish satellite was inked between Space Technologies Research Institute of Turkey’s Scientific and Technological Research Council and Russian International Space Company Kosmotras.

“Yasniy” base in Orenburg district will be used for launch of the Turkish satellite.
