Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMD) Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade opposes erecting gravestones.
"According to Sharia, monuments should not be erected," CMD chief told reporters.
Recently, the erection of gravestones has become wide-spread.
Mourning ceremonies are also held too luxuriantly.
Pashazade said not only believers, but the entire community should deal with such facts.
"To do this, it is necessary to better educate the society," he said.
